Hoosier Cabinets & Other Kitchen Memories

As we gather over the next few days for DearMYRTLE’s 2nd Annual Heirloom Recipe Exchange and Pampered Chef Party, I’d like to hear what you remember about family kitchens from bygone eras.

When Ol’ Myrt here thinks of “heirloom recipes” I harken back to delightful aromas wafting from my Grandma Myrtle’s kitchen in Puyallup, Washington. She had built-in kitchen cabinets with glass drawer and door pulls. Grandmother’s cook stove was electric.

My great-grandmother Eliza (Wasden) Weiser (1862-1942) lived a meager life in a bare wood floor farmhouse featuring a Hoosier Cabinet with flour sifter a free-standing cabinet of sorts. Great-grandmother’s stove was wood burning.
