This is most certainly the site of ol’ Myrt’s professional genealogical studies, except where is my laptop?
Today I submitted my 2024 Continuing Education Report to the Association of Professional Genealogists. Twelve hours is the required minimum per annum. Mine total approximately 249. This is an abstract of my studies:

OTHER – 85 hours as follows:
— COMPILED an inventory of digital and manuscript record sets concerning Guemes Island, Washington and Indigenous and European residents at 1 US university, 3 regional historical societies, 1 state & 1 county archive.
— COMPILED photo/video documentation of island veterans and elderly residents’ recollections, including Coast Salish describing cultural traditions, iconography and the current Raven Carving project.
— HIRED contractor for digitization of all proved-up BLM-GLO land entry files including cash entry, preemption, homestead, timber claims, etc. GLO has the usual database but no scans of patents online. Result:1,400 files.
STILL TO DO
— EVALUATE & reporting via a new blog, results of BLM GLO early European settlers.
— RESEARCH Washington territorial/state land transactions, to prove/disprove “if a white man married an Indian woman, he got an extra 40 acres.”
— INVESTIGATE holdings of 1 additional county, 1 Canadian university, and 1 regional NARA facility.
— CREATE searchable database of resources.
— PREPARE searchable database of early residents with references to related manuscript files at the GIHS (Guemes Island Historical Society.)
— CREATE Finding Aid for each GIHS file folder with archivist.
— SHARE with BLM GLO scanned images of patents not included on their website.
— OUTREACH with Coast Salish to understand and share knowledge of thousands of years history on Guemes Island. Note: European settlers research leaves an easy-to-follow paper trail. Not so with Indigenous population groups where oral history is the tradition.
WHAT ACTIVITIES WERE MOST HELPFUL TO YOU & WHY?
— Well-hosted group discussions provide multiple viewpoints this researcher may not have considered.
— Multi-cultural, cross-generational discussions of methodology, legal and ecclesiastical influences, historical timelines and patterns of archival classifications, and such, raise essential awareness of similarities and distinctions between countries.
— Hybrid events permit this Ol’ grandma to continue to learn while limited mobility is at issue personally.
