Myrt’s 2025 Genealogy Webinars
DearMYRTLE offers two types of free genealogy meetings – Mondays with Myrt and a brand new book club!
Mondays are going to get busier for your ol’ and (not so) retired friend in genealogy. The line-up for our every-other Monday virtual meetings in 2025 is as follows:
• Mondays with Myrt – Noon to 1:30pm (Eastern, daylight when applicable)
• Break – 1:30pm to 1:45pm
• Myrt’s Book Club – 2pm to 3pm
• There is a scheduled break for most of December 2025.

Mondays with Myrt is our flagship discussion group. We will meet virtually every other week at Noon Eastern (daylight when applicable) beginning 6 January 2025 by LIVE streaming at: https://www.YouTube.com/@dearmyrtlearchive
Our internationally focused panelists join DearMYRTLE in the video to share what’s come across our genea-desks since the last time we met. We also entertain topics our panelists and attendees request. Attendees view the virtual meeting via YouTube and may participate in the LIVE chat. Its all about conversation, not lectures. The recording and full transcript “automagically” appear thanks to YouTube technology.
Myrt’s BOOK CLUB meets every other Monday as well, starting at 2pm Eastern (daylight when applicable.)
GOALS
These free, public meetings provide participants an overview of the contents of book club titles. Unlike a mainstream book club, the title will not vary each month, rather various chapters will be mentioned over several months. The goal is to serve as a gateway for participation in paid, private, small-group, multiple session study groups hosted by leading genealogical professionals.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
There are four types of book club participation:
- Panelists are pre-selected to join DearMYRTLE in each video series. They submit homework and share screens to illustrate their take on a single concept from the assigned book chapters in question.
- Host DearMYRTLE collates and edits panelists’ homework into a single Google Doc. The link will be found in the description Book Club video session.
- Attendees may view the panel discussion on YouTube and may comment during the LIVE stream at https://www.YouTube.com/@dearmyrtlearchive. The video recording and transcript of each meeting will ‘automagically’ appear in the same place owing to YouTube technology.
- Viewers may watch & comment on the recorded Book Club video discussions are archived https://tinyurl.com/MyrtsBookClub.
- OBSERVING COPYRIGHT
- • In all cases, panelists will use an example from their own research to illustrate a concept inspired by a book’s author.
- • Panelists may cite a sentence from a chapter, with book title, author and page.
- • The only allowed graphic from the book will be the cover page for brand recognition and does not imply author or publisher endorsement.
- • Opinions expressed by panelists are strictly their own.
BOOK TITLES
The first two books we will be looking at are Mastering Genealogy Proof and Mastering Genealogical Documentation, both by Thomas W. Jones. The National Genealogical Society publishes the paperbacks available at https://www.ngsgenealogy.org . The titles are also offered by Amazon in paperback and Kindle Format. Note: A Kindle is not required to view the book as there are Kindle Apps for smartphones, tablets and computers.
Our first Book Club title is 2025 Mastering Genealogical Proof by Thomas W. Jones, published in 2013 by the National Genealogical Society. Note: The paperback version is available from the publisher at https://www.ngsgenealogy.org, and is also offered in paperback and Kindle versions through Amazon. Homework will be collated and summarized in a Google Doc, distributed during each LIVE stream. It is recommended that all participants print out a copy with which to make notes.
